Well, there are several ways. Theft, fire, not to mention the issue of liability. I am curious as to how folks out there deal with the issue of insurance for their tractors - or am I just paranoid, living in the heart of the lawsuit capital of the world? Thanks!

I financed my Kubota for 60 months. There was a one time charge of about $300 or so that covers the tractor for the whole 60 months regardless of what happens to it, including losing it off the trailer. That was on a 2710. ....

Neither my home policy or my barn and out building policys would cover my tractor - or any wheeled vehicle for that matter. I checked by asking if the tractor would be covered if my barn (insured for fire) burned down. The answer was no and it would take another several hundred a year to cover it for fire. No coverage for theft was available at all. The "personal possessions" covered if the building is a total loss specifically does not cover "wheeled vehicles". I checked with Allstate and State Farm because I have other policies with both of them. As far a liability, I don't know. Roger ....

I've started a small farm on my property. My home insurance carrier said the tractor was not covered--and they wouldn't add a rider for it. I finally found a company that specializes in small farm/home insurance. For $100 extra annually it covers theft, fire, liability, and injury for crops I sell. It doesn't cover employees, etc (but I have none). ....

Losing a tractor reminds me of a post on a BB on the Yesterday's Tractors website. It was pretty good. A guy located an old, dilapidated tractor out in a field somwhere and inquired at the owners home if it might be for sale. He learned there was also another old tractor on the property. The guy showed him where the second tractor was at. All you could see was the top of the exhaust pipe!! He got it stuck in a pretty soft spot and it sunk rather deep, so the farmer just sort of left it there. I think the sunken tractor had a few mechanical problems anyway and so he figured it wasn't worth the trouble to try and retrieve it. Well this buyer worked out a deal and got both of them. I think he used a backhoe to get the stuck one out. He wound up tearing it down and actually rebuilding it, and even got it running! That was another way to "lose" a tractor!! ....
